The COIP organization was founded by Barbara Courtney in 2012 and incorporated in 2013. Ms. Courtney has a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. She has been active in her community for more than 20 years. She has skills and expertise in crisis intervention, case management, social services, drug/alcohol counseling, and group/individual counseling.
She is a motivational speaker and advocate for children of incarcerated parents in areas such as parental rights, domestic violence against individuals and families, foster care, employment/food stamps for felons etc. She is a member of the Second Chance Re-entry Coalition, Co-Chair for housing, and a Life Coach for self- empowerment. She is a parent who knows about the criminal system. She decided to stop walking around the elephant in the room and to address the issues in her family and community.
Her heart's desire is to change the writing on the wall and to empower children and young adults to be healthy and productive citizens in their communities.
